Martin Whitfield MSP has been appointed to Scottish Labour’s shadow team at Holyrood.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has made Mr Whitfield Shadow Minister for Children and Young People, Lifelong Learning and Youth Employment.

Commenting on his appointment, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“I’m very pleased and proud to have been appointed to this great new Scottish Labour team at Holyrood with its clear focus on our collective goal of a fair national recovery.

“I believe the role I’ve been asked to undertake plays to my strengths and experience as a teacher and I’m looking forward to fighting for the recovery our children and young people so desperately need.”

After revealing his team, Anas Sarwar said: 

“This is a team that brings together the best of the Labour movement with a focus on delivering a national recovery for the people of Scotland.

“I’m particularly delighted to welcome the new talents to the Labour group, they have already brought an energy and enthusiasm that continues to build on the sense of optimism from the election campaign.

“This team demonstrates a relentless focus on protecting lives and livelihoods and taking the bold action needed to build a fairer and more equal nation coming through this crisis.”
