Martin Whitfield MSP has welcomed the presentation of a prestigious community engagement award to Prestonpans Labour Party Social Club.
The club was given the Keir Hardie Community Engagement Award, which is presented to a select group of individuals and organisations within the party who have made a particular impact in their local community, at the Scottish Labour Party Conference.
Mr Whitfield, who lives in Prestonpans himself, had nominated the club for the award in recognition of its work supporting local people during COVID and the cost-of-living crisis. Cllr Brooke Ritchie accepted the award on behalf of the club at the conference in Edinburgh.
Commenting on the club’s success, Martin Whitfield MSP said:
“Prestonpans Labour Club has a long and proud track record of being at the heart of the local community and doing all it can to assist and support local people. Its committee and staff played their part in supporting vulnerable people during the pandemic and have been offering further help through the cost-of-living crisis.
“I was pleased to nominate the club for the Keir Hardie Community Engagement Award in recognition of this activity and am delighted that its important community work has been acknowledged in this way. Very well done to the staff, committee and everyone else who has been involved.”
