March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month and Martin Whitfield MSP is joining charities to help promote awareness. 31st March is Brain Tumour Research‘s Wear A Hat Day, one of the UK’s most popular annual charity fundraisers.

Wear A Hat Day events have raised more than £2 million over the last decade to help fund vital research and raise powerful awareness of brain tumours. This year’s event involves scientists engaged in life-saving research to showcase how the funds raised are making a difference.

This has included developing three Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence, making crucial discoveries, providing career-defining opportunities for dozens of young researchers, and pushing the boundaries of knowledge about brain tumours.

In 2023, the charity will launch a new Research Centre, bringing them one step closer in their mission to establish a network of seven Centres of Excellence across the UK. Funds from Wear A Hat Day will be essential in helping sustain the research here and at the other Centres.

Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40.  One in three people know someone affected by brain tumours.

“Brain Tumour Research is funding vital scientific research on this issue and has made some ground-breaking discoveries already.

“Wear a Hat Day is crucial to sustaining and expanding this work. I’m very pleased to help support the day and promote awareness of the impact of brain tumours.”
