Today (24th June) is Armed Forces Day the annual celebration of the UK’s Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.
Introduced by the last Labour Government, Armed Forces Day is held each year on the last Saturday of June to celebrate the service and sacrifice of our serving UK Armed Forces, as well as their families and former service men and women.
Ahead of the day Martin Whitfield MSP joined Douglas Alexander on a visit to Prestonpans Royal British Legion Club to catch up on their latest developments and discuss some of the issues affecting local service personnel, veterans and their families.
Martin Whitfield MSP said:
“I am deeply proud of and grateful to all the Armed Forces personnel from across the South Scotland region for the enormous contribution they make to our country. On Armed Forces Day, we thank them for all they do to keep Britain and our allies around the world safe.
“The next Labour Government will stand by our Armed Forces personnel by ensuring our heroes have good homes to live in and we will fully incorporate the Armed Forces Covenant into law.”
