Martin Whitfield MSP and Douglas Alexander MP have visited local social enterprise Heavy Sound CIC to meet staff and volunteers for an update on its important work supporting disengaged young people and adults.

It was Mr Alexander’s first time visiting the organisation and he was full of praise for the flexible, person-centred support it provides to young people through a variety of different mediums, including music, martial arts, and cycling and bike maintenance.

Mr Whitfield, who has visited the charity previously, also welcomed the excellent services it provides locally, which include a trauma informed mentoring service and community outreach initiatives utilising its converted single decker bus, the Crib.

Commenting after the visit, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“I’m in contact with charities and community groups that work with disengaged young people across Scotland, and there is no doubt in my mind that Heavy Sound is one of the best and most successful at what they do.

“The dedicated support, care and empathy their staff and volunteers offer the young people they work with is invaluable on so many levels. It has a positive impact on the wellbeing of the individuals, their families and the wider community, and I’ll always support its vital work.”

Douglas Alexander MP said:

“Heavy Sound is a truly outstanding local social enterprise undertaking life-changing work with local young people and adults. I was hugely impressed by the knowledge and commitment of the staff and volunteers and the significant impact their engagement has on the lives of the young people they support.

“I’m grateful to Jordan and his team for taking time out to update me on their important activity and look forward to doing what I can to support them and their work in the future.”
