Martin Whitfield MSP has returned to East Linton Primary School to speak to P7 pupils as part of their learning about our democracy and how the Scottish Parliament works.
Former teacher Mr Whitfield was invited to visit the class to talk about his role as a Member of the Scottish Parliament and how decisions and laws are made at Holyrood, before hosting a Question & Answer session with the pupils.
Following the MSP’s visit, the pupils will continue their democracy project with a visit to the Scottish Parliament for a tour of the building and to enable them to find out more about how the parliament functions and the day-to-day work of MSPs.
Speaking after the visit, Martin Whitfield MSP said:
“It was a real pleasure to return to East Linton Primary school and speak to P7 pupils again. I believe that this kind of outreach to schools and other organisations is an important part of the role of MSPs and MPs and always try to accept invites to visit schools whenever possible.
“Having a good understanding of how parliament works and laws are made is vital, especially as young people can now vote at 16 in most elections. I hope that learning about our democracy at school will help them to feel confident about participating and having their say on the issues they care about.”
