Martin Whitfield MSP has visited Law Primary School to speak to pupils about his role and answer their questions as part of their work studying democracy and the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Whitfield visited the school to speak to all of its P7 pupils about his work at Holyrood representing the South Scotland Region, which includes the East Lothian constituency, and how the Scottish Parliament functions and our laws are made.

Following an introduction on his role as one of the MSP’s representing their area, Mr Whitfield answered the pupils’ questions about politics and how the Scottish Parliament operates, as well as some more personal ones about what life is like as an MSP.

They included: How much family home time do you give up being an MSP? What is your life story? What is the biggest challenge you’ve ever had to face? and Do you get nervous when speaking and debating in Parliament?

Commenting after his visit, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“I welcomed this latest opportunity to speak to pupils at Law Primary and am grateful to the school for inviting me in to speak again. As on my previous visits, the pupils were very attentive to their subject and imaginative in their questioning, with a few I have never been asked before.

“I really enjoy opportunities to speak to local pupils about our work in Parliament and hope that the Law pupils found it a helpful session as they learn more about our democracy.”
