Commenting on the Scottish Fire Rescue Service’s proposals for changing local fire services in communities across Scotland, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“The FBU has been on record for some time now about several of Scotland’s fire stations no longer being fit for purpose, mainly due to more than a decade of real-terms budget cuts.

“Tranent’s station has certainly been identified as one of those being in poor condition, so the proposal for a new station there is long overdue.

“However, it will be important for all the communities affected by these proposals to express any concerns they have during the SFRS consultation.”
