The launch of a new Postal Apprenticeship scheme for would-be postmen and women has been welcomed by Martin Whitfield MSP.

The new Royal Mail scheme will offer up to 1,000 Level 2 Apprenticeships which will be based at delivery offices across the UK.

The Postal Apprenticeship scheme is designed to provide applicants with the required skills for a successful career at Royal Mail, as well as a broad range of lasting transferable skills and experience.

The company says this new scheme will be one of the largest single apprenticeship programmes in the UK and that all applicants who successfully complete the scheme will be offered a permanent role.

The scheme builds on the long running apprenticeship programmes already in place in fleet, engineering and other parts of the business.

Welcoming the new scheme, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“This is a great new initiative offering an exciting opportunity for young people to apply for a career in the Royal Mail.

“I know from having spent time shadowing one of our local posties how committed they are to their role and the communities serve and what an enjoyable and fulfilling job it can be.

“I would encourage any young people with an interest in pursuing a career in the Royal Mail to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for the new apprenticeship scheme.”

The scheme opens for applications on Monday 28th June – more information can be found by visiting the Early Careers section on Royal Mail’s website at www.royalmailgroup.com.

The initial cohort of 500 apprenticeships will begin in September 2021, with Royal Mail set to make a further announcement on the remaining 500 apprenticeships at a later date.
