Speaking during a Scottish Parliament debate on Team GB’s success at the recent Tokyo Paralympic Games, Martin Whitfield MSP paid tribute to Dunbar sprinter Maria Lyle and her further medal success at the games.

Mr Whitfield said:

“I was really pleased to see the topic of Team GB’s success at the Tokyo Paralympics chosen for debate at Holyrood and was determined to speak in order to pay tribute to Maria for her continued success at the Games.

“Her medal-winning performances in Tokyo not only confirmed her status as one of Team GB’s most accomplished para-athletes, but also as a real inspiration to thousands of young people across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

“I was delighted to take the opportunity presented by the debate to highlight Maria’s success, and that of other Scottish athletes, as well as backing calls for parity for the Paralympics.”
