Martin Whitfield MSP has tabled a motion at the Scottish Parliament congratulating everyone at Harlawhill Day Care Centre on its 30th anniversary, which it is celebrating this year.

The motion welcomes Harlawhill’s vital contribution to the local community in Prestonpans, including during Covid and lockdown when its outreach activities were an important lifeline to many older people in the community, and wishes the team many more successful years providing its services and support.

Commenting on the motion and Harlawhill’s anniversary, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Fiona Mitchell and her team at Harlawhill provide absolutely invaluable assistance and support to older people in Prestonpans. Over the last 30 years it has become a much-loved and very well respected facility at the heart of the local community and fully deserves all the praise it receives.

“I’m pleased to be able to contribute to the recognition of its anniversary with this motion at Holyrood and wish the staff, volunteers and service users at Harlawhill all the very best for the future.”

That the Parliament congratulates the staff, volunteers and service users at Harlawhill Day Care Centre in Prestonpans on reaching its 30th anniversary; believes that the much-loved Harlawhill has provided an excellent range of services and support for older people in Prestonpans over the last 30 years, and even continued its vital work in the local community during COVID-19 and the lockdown, by conducting outreach to those who were no longer able to physically access the centre, including offering telephone buddies, weekly treats, street entertainment on special days and delivering afternoon tea from local businesses; thanks the entire team at Harlawhill for the dedicated service they provide to older people in Prestonpans, and wishes them many more successful years at the heart of the local community.
