South Scotland MSPs Martin Whitfield and Carol Mochan have visited the Fa’side and Preston, Seton & Gosford lunch clubs to thank staff and volunteers for the important service they have been providing for families during the summer holiday period.

Run by the Pennypit Community Development Trust since 2017, with the support of East Lothian Council and other partners, the lunch clubs aim to reduce food insecurity over the holidays and provide play opportunities for children in the Fa’side and PSG areas.

The clubs also help improve health and wellbeing in the community as well as supporting vital work experience and volunteering for anyone wishing to help with the activities during the summer holidays.

The MSPs were joined by local councillors Colin Yorkston and Brooke Ritchie for the PSG club visit.

Speaking after the visits, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“The Fa’side and PSG summer lunch clubs have become established as crucial services for local families over the holiday period. They provide a positive mix of childcare, nutritious food and fun and healthy activities for children over the summer.

“Carol and I enjoyed meeting the children and thanking staff and volunteers for their commitment to delivering this much-needed provision and helping to ensure children have access to healthy lunches during the holiday.”
