South Scotland MSP Martin Whitfield has joined colleagues at Holyrood to help raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Mr Whitfield joined his shadow education colleague Michael Marra and other MSPs at a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at the Scottish Parliament organised by Jackie Baillie MSP and Paul O’Kane MSP.

The charity fundraiser, which takes place every September, sees millions of pounds donated each year to help support people affected by cancer. The money raised helps fund Macmillan services across Scotland to make sure people living with cancer can access the physical, emotional and financial support they need.

Nearly all (98%) of Macmillan’s funding comes directly from donations, but disruption caused by Covid-19 since early 2020 means demand for its services has been high, while fundraising has often been challenging.

Speaking about his support for the annual fundraiser, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“It was great to join Michael for our MacMillan Coffee morning event, co-hosted by the fabulous Jackie Baillie and Paul O’Kane.

“All the funds raised at the coffee morning are going to help support the vitally important work of Macmillan Cancer Support, a truly fantastic cause.

“I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of the groups and individuals who organise local World’s Biggest Coffee Morning events for their support for Macmillan.”
