Martin Whitfield MSP has joined Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) officials on a visit to Annandale Distillery to find out more about the historic business and discuss some of the current challenges facing the industry.

Mr Whitfield was given a tour of the distillery, which re-opened in 2014 after being closed for for nearly 100 years, and an explanation of its extraordinary history and recent development.

Following the tour, Mr Whitfield met with the SWA staff and Annandale representatives to talk about some of the issues facing the Scotch whisky industry and its distilleries.

Commenting after the visit, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“It was wonderful to visit Annandale Distillery with Scotch Whisky Association officials and find out more about its unique history, more recent past and exciting future developments. It is a first rate business and excellent visitor attraction which offers a special experience to Scotch enthusiasts and more casual visitors alike.

“As well as a very enjoyable tour, it was good to catch up both on the challenges the very important industry is currently facing, but also some of the many opportunities that exist for it going forward. It was a really useful visit and discussion and I want to thank David and his team for making us so welcome.”
