Martin Whitfield MSP has welcomed a new campaign highlighting stories from families living in poverty this winter and stressing the importance of remaining focused on meeting statutory child poverty targets.

The key message from Save the Children’s #InvestInChildren campaign is that the deep poverty so many children are facing, which could have devastating impacts on their life-chances, means the Scottish Government must ensure their budget does all it can protect these children not just today, but into the future.

It is also pointing out that 1 in 4 children in Scotland will have been hit especially hard by the cost-of-living crisis, because they were already living in poverty even before the crisis. For these children, the crisis has significantly worsened their chances of enjoying the happy, thriving life they deserve.

“Ahead of this year’s Scottish Budget on 15th December, Save the Children Scotland’s #InvestinChildren campaign is highlighting some of the recent stories they have heard from families living in poverty this winter.

“I welcome the campaign and the important focus it has placed on tackling the cost of living crisis and remaining steadfast in efforts to meet Scotland’s statutory child poverty reduction targets.”
