Martin Whitfield MSP has welcomed the announcement that East Lothian Council has been awarded £11.3m from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Mr Whitfield had supported the council’s bid for funding, which will help undertake further preparations at the former Cockenzie power station site to make it more attractive to potential investors.

Commenting on the funding, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“I am delighted that East Lothian Council has secured this substantial funding from the UK Government.

“I formally backed the application and welcome the difference the funds will make to improving and preparing the site for investment and employment.

“I hope that this funding will now support the council and its partners to develop it in a way that will bring the greatest benefit in terms of jobs, growth and local communities.”
