Responding to Marine Conservation Society research which has identified concerns about the lack of sewage overflows being monitored and recorded in the Lothians, Martin Whitfield MSP said:
“Concerns about the number of unmonitored sewage overflows and the impact they have on our waterways and beaches have been raised in parliament on a regular basis.
“I welcome this research by the Marine Conservation Society and its call for comprehensive action on monitoring and recording overflows.
“Ministers must respond positively to these findings to ensure Scottish Water takes action on monitoring sewage dumps and upgrading our Victorian sewage system.”
