The growing problem of food poverty in rural areas of the South Scotland region was the focus of Martin Whitfield MSP’s visit to Peeblesshire Foodbank.

Mr Whitfield visited the Peebles-based service and met with co-ordinator Fiona Dalgleish to discuss the foodbank’s important work and the increasing number of local people accessing its services.

Speaking after the visit, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“I’m grateful to Fiona and her team at Peeblesshire Foodbank for taking the time this week to provide me with an update on their vital work and the support they receive from the local community.

“Like foodbanks across the country, Fiona and her dedicated volunteers provide a vital lifeline service for people in the local area experiencing food poverty.

“While it is shocking that so many people are suffering in this way today in Scotland, even in areas generally considered to be relatively prosperous, as long as the need is there I will continue to support their important work.”
