Martin Whitfield MSP has joined colleagues in promoting Wear Red Day with the Show Racism the Red Card campaign. The MSPs were joined by the campaign’s manager Billy Singh, actor, comedian, and writer Sanjeev Singh Kohli and journalist and football pundit Peter Martin.

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. It utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. More recently, it has also expanded its work into other sports.

The majority of the campaign’s work involves the delivery of educational workshops to young people and adults. These are delivered in schools, workplaces and at events held in football stadiums. Across the UK, SRtRC provides educational sessions to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

Wear Red Day is the campaign’s annual promotional and fundraising event and takes place on 20th October. MSPs who attended the drop-in were able to find out more about Wear Red Day and the campaign’s work.

Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Show Racism the Red Card is a really important and effective campaign. I’ve always supported the campaign’s work and was pleased to help promote Wear Red Day. I’d encourage all those involved in football across South Scotland to support the day and help raise the campaign’s profile in their area.”
