Ahead of a debate on Scotland’s culture sector, Martin Whitfield MSP has pledged his support for the nation’s musicians and the future of live music.

Mr Whitfield met with representatives of the Musicians’ Union (MU), which represents over 33,000 musicians across the UK working in all sectors of the music business, and discussed some of the current challenges facing musicians and others in the culture sector.

Speaking afterwards, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Live music is a crucial part of the wider cultural sector, but there is no doubt many musicians and venues are struggling.

“This debate is an opportunity for the Scottish Government to commit to helping the sector now and to set out clear timescales for when it will receive further support.

“People in the sector want to know that the new promises on funding are meaningful and will help them now, not years down the line when it will be too late.”
