Commenting on East Lothian Council’s decision to write to the UK Government to ask for support with conducting a survey on the feasibility of the Torness power station site for future nuclear projects, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Torness power station is due to cease production in 2030 and, as things stand, Scotland and East Lothian could miss out on substantial investment in the next generation of nuclear power.

“I want to help ensure we do not miss that opportunity for future economic development, jobs, and apprenticeships, and share East Lothian Council’s view that the Torness site should be considered for potential new nuclear projects.”
