Martin Whitfield MSP and Douglas Alexander MP have met with the Greek Ambassador to the UK and representatives of Metlen Energy & Metals, an industrial and energy company which is currently working on the Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project which entered the FTSE 100 this week.

The meeting was initiated by the Ambassador, His Excellency Yannis Tsaousis, and provided the opportunity for Metlen to highlight its role in the delivery of major renewable energy and other infrastructure power projects in the UK, including East Lothian.

The Metlen representatives provided an overview of the company’s interests in the UK and an update on its central role in delivering EGL1 for Scottish Power Energy Networks and National Grid Energy Transmission, including the engagement it has had so far with local communities.

Speaking after the meeting, Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“Metlen is a major global business delivering a critical infrastructure project in Eastern Green Link 1. It was good to chat to the company’s representatives about that project, as well as some of its wider activity.

“I’m also very grateful to Mr Tsaousis for taking the time to come and talk to us about this successful Greek company as well as the important role Greek citizens are playing in our area and across Scotland.”

Douglas Alexander MP said:

“I welcomed this opportunity to meet with the Greek Ambassador and Metlen representatives to hear more about the role of Greek citizens and businesses in Scotland, and the company’s leading position in the metals and energy sectors.

“Metlen is a global leader in the metals and energy sectors, so it was useful to find out more about its work and particularly its key role in delivering Eastern Green Link 1 and I look forward to maintaining the dialogue that we have started.”
