Martin Whitfield MSP has raised the findings of a new report by the Accounts Commission and the Auditor General on improving care experience in Scotland with the First Minister.

The report makes clear that there has been a lack of leadership and commitment to implementation of The Promise which has laid bare the Scottish Government’s failure to deliver on its promises to young people in Scotland’s care system.

Mr Whitfield challenged John Swinney over the findings of the report and asked what he will do now to deliver The Promise.

Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“The Scottish Government has a responsibility to do right by care-experienced children, but it’s clear there has been a lack of leadership and delivery.
“Scotland was promised a better future for care-experienced children. This report by Audit Scotland now confirms that promise was never properly planned or resourced.
“The First Minister said today he takes responsibility — but he must also take action to ensure that The Promise is delivered by 2030. There can be more excuses.”
