NHS 24 has launched its public health campaign ‘Powered by People’ which is designed to promote the use of trusted digital health tools as a source of accurate advice and support when people are unwell.

Martin Whitfield MSP is helping promote the campaign, which also encourages people to use NHS services appropriately and to be prepared for seasonal illnesses throughout winter.

NHS 24’s health preparedness tips this winter include:

If you become unwell, NHS inform have useful symptom checkers to help you decide what to do next.

– Check your repeat prescription, order only what you need, in plenty of time.
– Keep some medicines to treat common illnesses at home.
– Be aware that your GP practice and local pharmacy will have amended opening hours over the festive holidays.

Martin Whitfield MSP said:

“I welcome NHS24’s ‘Powered by People’ winter campaign and its key public heath messages on dealing with illness this winter.

“Everyone knows that winter is the busiest time for the NHS so it pays to be prepared for dealing with common winter illnesses at home if you possibly can.

“The simple steps the campaign recommends can help keep families comfortable at home and hopefully help relieve some of the pressures facing the NHS at this time of year.”

Dr Ron Cook, NHS 24’s Medical Director, said:

“It is vital that people use trusted NHS resources when seeking health information online. NHS 24’s symptom checkers, found on NHS inform , use the same clinical advice as our 111 service. They provide people with accurate information on how to safely self-manage minor illnesses and conditions at home but also details on where to find further help if you need it.

“Our ‘Powered by People’ campaign highlights how every NHS 24 service is backed by real NHS experts. Whether you use our digital tools or call 111, experienced professionals are there to support you. This campaign celebrates the crucial role of our staff, ensuring that behind every digital solution is a caring team dedicated to your wellbeing.”

NHS 24 has published a winter health page on NHS inform, which is a handy resource to signpost the public to relevant advice for seasonal illnesses and conditions.
